8 Worst Make-up Trends of 2017

8. Squiggle Eyebrows

Eyebrows are now an essential part of doing your makeup. In 2014, the famous fraise “eyebrows on fleek” came to life from a popular vine. Since then, even if everything wasn’t quite right, their eyebrows were. Celebrities and people with substantial influence on social media outlets such as YouTube and Instagram are doing their eyebrows, and they have gone very creative with it. Although many are jumping on the trend, it just looks dreadful. The squiggle brows more closely resemble tadpoles rather than actual eyebrows. Regardless if people wear them out in public, or just do them for a youtube video or Instagram post, they should never be a trend.

7. Reverse Contour

Normal Contour that’s perfectly fine. If you’re on the bigger side or if your face is shorter or you want it longer it helps you define your face. But this trend does, well the exact opposite. Not only do you look like you’re about to go to war while putting it on, but your outcome is just something that you would not want. Good thing this one has pretty much died out because there’s really just no reason for it.

6. Faux Freckles

I myself have freckles. These just look like someone has taken some mud and splattered it across your face. I am glad that people were able to find the beauty in this but I wish they would make it at least look more realistic. I would personally recommend a very light brown eyebrow pencil and a light hand. Versus these weird type of tattoo things that you use on your face.

5. Glossy Eyeshadow

This look recently became popular by models on the runway. I feel like unless you have professional products for this you could sweat and the eye gloss will just drip into your eye. That would not be good for anyone. The look itself is kind of pretty but when you actually think about it realistically it would spread to your foundation and look like your eye are crying. I’d say for this look just leave it to the professionals.

4. Hair Nails

Nail art has been going from 0 to 100 for quite some time now. The amount of talent┬ápeople put into that little space that you have on the end of your fingers is absolutely amazing. Then there are some that don’t quite catch your eye, even more so, creep you out. Hair nails were created by an artist named Dain Yoon. Showing an interesting set of nail art with a face and long hair? This was just another one of those strange experiments that should’ve just stayed in the lab.

3. 100 Layer Makeup Challenge

Now this one isn’t necessarily a trend but it’s definitely worth mentioning simply because you waste so much product and it makes your lips look like they’re shriveling in decay or you have a million little bugs on your eyelashes. This challenge started off as a simple joke. That meant with anything 100 layers of clothes or nail polish. But makeup? You film yourself putting on 100 I repeat 100 layers of product. I can’t imagine trying to take off that much foundation without wanting to just give up and end up looking like Micheal Myers mask melting. With some challenges just be the bigger person and say no.

2. Glitter Tongue

You’d think that by now people would learn to not do things that would harm them if it could be prevented. Apparently not. The glitter tongue, you literally put glitter on your tongue. Many doctors have warned about how harmful this can be especially if ingested. Think about it glitter is extremely hard to get off your clothes and gets on everything randomly already. Imagine trying to get it out of your mouth. It’s just not worth it for some likes and a cool picture.

1. Nose Hair Extensions

I remember a time when you had just one nose hair longer than normal, people would tell you please get rid of that thing. I truly feel like people are running out of ideas. Using eyelashes to tuck under your nose for that “rugged” look maybe? I personally wouldn’t even consider this beauty anything. Now I am in no way saying that long nose hairs are just hideous. But trying to make this trend happen is like trying to wear red lipstick when you only have clear gloss.

So there you have it, my opinion of the 8 worst beauty trends this year. I’m sure there are many more to come but hopefully, they will come up with something that actually looks inspiring. People will do anything to become the next trendsetter or try and revitalize beauty. In the end, though, the good thing about beauty is it solely rests on creativeness. Still, there are just some things you should leave in the dark recesses of your mind.
